Over 100 years ago, the famous Beelitz Heilstätten were built. Today, a spectacular treetop walk (wheelchair accessible) winds its way over the Alpenhaus World War ruin, allowing visitors to explore the grounds and its remarkable tree population from the roof of the ruin.

The complex was originally constructed as a sanatorium to help workers from Berlin recover from a widespread tuberculosis outbreak. During both World Wars, the Heilstätten served as military hospitals for German soldiers. Today, these buildings exude a morbid charm, partly due to—or perhaps enhanced by—the romantic overgrowth of wild plants.

A stroll along the treetop walk, combined with a tour through the wooded park and the preserved buildings, offers guests fascinating insights into the history and nature of this site, which was saved from destruction. A 40-meter-high observation tower provides an impressive panoramic view. An elevator takes you comfortably to the top, where you can enjoy a wide view of the Heilstätten grounds, the Fläming Heath, and even Berlin.
