The Storchenhof, an associated ornithological station, is on the outskirts of the town of Loburg in the direction of Lübars, and observant visitors will be able to spot the stork’s nests from far away. In the summer months it’s possible to observe families of storks in three nests. The stork parents often greet visitors with a loud rattling. The Storchenhof provides a diverse observation area. In the summer, orphaned stork chicks are raised and prepared for life in the wild. Injured storks and other birds are taken in, treated by vets, looked after and, when they have recovered, released into the wild again.

The main aim of the people working at the Storchenhof is maintaining white storks and their habitats in Saxony-Anhalt and beyond. It is a goal that they put all of their energy into. Visitors of all ages are always welcome, and can spend an relaxing, informative time on the Storchenhof. Alongside wild birds, the Storchenhof also plays host to traditional breeds like moorland sheep and various breeds of hens. Bees inhabit the Storchenhof too, and it is Storchenhof honey that sticks in many guests’ minds. 

From April to August there is an experience day on the third Saturday of the month, with lots on offer for visitors. Tours can take place as required for individuals, couples, families and larger groups. The latter subject to prior arrangement. The site is wheelchair-accessible and has a disabled toilet.

Books, souvenirs, CDs and DVDs plus much more can all be bought in the online shop to support the work of the ornithological station, and individual animals can also be adopted.
