Right in the centre of town, Großbeeren’s Protestant church was built according to a design by Karl Friedrich Schinkels from 1818 to 1820 in the Gothic Revival style. It replaced a previous structure, which was destroyed in the second half of the 18th century. Compared to the characteristic cobblestone churches of the neighbouring district, the Schinkelkirche church stands out because of its exotic exterior. The floor plan is in the shape of a Greek cross. The interior was also furnishings were also realised according to Schinkel’s plans.

The church was a gift from King Frederick William III to Großbeeren for winning the Battle of Großbeeren. The foundation stone was laid on the 205th anniversary of the battle on 23 August 2018.

The church can be viewed during events, services and on open church and open monument days.
