A gentleman’s quarters are home to a whole household of women – In an old, generous Wilhelminian style villa, visitors can look at, grasp and buy bronze sculptures by the sculptor Susanne Kraißer. Exhibition rooms, studio spaces and workshops can be visited subject to appointment. The artist is happy to answer technical questions and questions about the contents of her work.

Female forms are the contemporary sculptor’s main subject, but she has also created animal sculptures and works on the subject of couples over the last 20 years. Small and miniature bronze figures, often combined with architectural elements such as cubes, blocks or small rooms, populate the walls and surfaces. Large format works are a completely different topic for the artist, standing alone and filling the space. The bronzes outside reveal their full effect together with the surrounding greenery.

Sculpture is, above all, an examination of form and volume, space, movement and statics for the artist. In terms of content, she focuses on demonstrating and unifying polarities such as pliability and strength, fragility and mass, balance and volume. A harsh dissonance emerges between the generally harmonious outer form and the rough, fragmentary design of the surface. Traces of work and marks remain like scabs on a wound. This imperfection reinforces the expression of fragility and vulnerability inherent to the figures. In its contradictory nature, the seemingly provisional surface seeks autonomy and perfection.
