2013 was the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Hagelberg . During the liberation wars against the Napoleon Bonaparte’s army, the battle near Bad Belzig came after the Battle of Großbeeren, in the run-up to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig.

On 27 August 1813 at about 5 p.m., a Prussian contingent supported by the “Landwehr” militia came across a French corps on Hagelberg. As it had already been raining since midday and their powder and guns were wet, the soldiers mainly fought with bayonets and rifle butts. Russian Cossacks joined the fighting and finally swung the battle in favour of the Prussians. The Saxon contingents on the French side switched to the Prussian side and Napoleon’s troops fled.

On Hagelberg, which is also the highest hill in Fläming, in addition to information of the Battle of Hagelberg, visitors will also find a summit cross and summit book, where they can enter their names ...
