The park surrounding Möckern castle was laid out according to the principles of the English landscape park. The paths lead in elegant arches through the park and reveal the park images devised by the horticultural artist to the visitor. Groups of trees and meadows should appear natural, but they follow an artistic composition. The castle and the associated lands have been owned by the von Hagen family since 1770. According to current knowledge, the development and expansion of the park began in 1816. The former city wall was partially removed, a closed moat was created as well as a pond. The fresh water ditch including the mill structure was relocated. The areas previously used as arable land were converted into a park over the next few years. In 1907, Rüdiger Graf von Hagen built the mausoleum that is still in existence today for his wife, who died at an early age.

Between 1945 and 1990 the park was opened to the public as a Volkspark. The palace as well as parts of the park were subjected to extensive renovation work. For example, parts of the moat were filled in. Parts of the avenue had to give way to an open-air stage. Due to a lack of maintenance, lines of sight disappeared and the park became in large parts overgrown.

In 1992, the refurbishment of the park began. The open-air stage was dismantled and destroyed bridge structures were replaced by wooden bridges. The ice cellar and the mausoleum were renovated and locked against vandalism. With the new planting of linden trees, a replacement for the avenue cross was created. A specially founded association has made it its task to preserve the last historically valuable landscape park and to restore it in the style of an English landscape park in accordance with monument law regulations.

The castle now houses a school and the museum "Heimatstube 1813". Visits and guided tours can be booked through the city of Möckern.
