Frederick II had a building with a Baroque garden built in front of the castle in 1775. It was intended to serve as a travel quarters for the king during his annual inspection trips to Magdeburg, and also be available for other aristocratic nobles to use. However, according to an anecdote, Frederick never lived in the house, because the architect had built a much larger two-storey house opposite. The Royal House and also the Architect’s House have been preserved.

Settlement policy in Ziesar

The royal domain office at the castle had to take care of the settlement of colonists in the surrounding suburbs and build houses at royal expense. Frederick II also ordered the drainage of the “Alter See” lake. The keep of Ziesar Castle provides a charming view of the wetlands today. Visitors can also visit the Museum of Brandenburg Church and Cultural History. There is also a local history museum in the town.
