This lock links the Notte canal with Lake Mellensee and is one of three locks in the canal. The canal was completed in 1864 and brought a huge economic upturn in the region. A great many brickyards were set up that used the new transportation route. Nowadays principally leisure boats can be found on the canal. Several hiking trails lead along the former towpath. The water and ground association 'Dahme-Notte’ is responsible for the lock.

In the season from the end of April to the beginning of October, the lock is manned daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the last lock operation takes place at 6:30 p.m. There is a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Out of season the lock is not manned, though lock operations can be carried out if booked in advance (at least a day beforehand). Reachable by phone at the following times: Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
