Beelitz-Heilstätten is best known for its former lung sanatorium. Creativity and culture have now moved into the listed buildings. The otherwise inaccessible bathhouse and men's sanatorium are part of the ‘Historical Centre’, in which KulturBHS offers a special meeting place in the sanatoriums with its programme. The various events are aimed equally at local residents and day visitors and enchant young and old alike.

The historic bathhouse provides the setting for a wide variety of exhibitions by regional and international artists. Dance parties, poetry slams, concerts and much more are regularly organised in the former men's sanatorium. The historical ambience creates a unique atmosphere and visitors experience the former sanatorium from a new perspective.

The history of the sanatorium began between 1898 and 1930, when the Berlin State Insurance Institute had the entire complex of 60 buildings built. Today, the ensemble, which covers around 200 hectares, is the largest architectural monument in Brandenburg in terms of area. The buildings are currently being extensively renovated in keeping with their listed status. The former women's sanatorium, the laundry and the kitchen building are already shining in new splendour - rental and owner-occupied flats as well as studios for creative people have been created here.
