About the artist

Ralf Wilhelm Schmidt, born in Luckenwalde in 1969, began his professional career as a carpenter and worked in this trade from 1985. This was followed in 1989 by a job as a forester, which deepened his close connection to nature and the forests.

This connection ultimately led to a decisive turning point in his life in 2008: He decided to give up his previous profession, moved to Potsdam and from then on devoted himself entirely to art. His artistic work as a freelance artist began.

Since 2009, Ralf Wilhelm Schmidt has been self-taught in pencil art, specializing in photorealistic depictions. In 2014, he opened his own studio and gallery in Caputh, where his works have been regularly exhibited ever since.

From 2015, Ralf Wilhelm Schmidt deepened his artistic skills through study trips to Germany's national parks. These stays inspired him to create his large-format pencil drawings of birds, animals and trees.

In 2023, he founded “Schmidt's Zeichenwelt”, a platform for online drawing courses to pass on his knowledge and techniques. Today, Ralf Wilhelm Schmidt is known for his unique and large-format pencil drawings that impressively capture the beauty of nature.

His works of art are appreciated by many collectors and enrich private collections as well as numerous living rooms, where they serve as valuable expressions of closeness to nature and artistic mastery.
