This hike takes you high up to an altitude of 76 metres on Krähenberg – Caputh’s local elevation point. First, however, you will walk around Krähenberg on tranquil forest paths and let your gaze wander over Lake Schwielowsee with a beautiful view of Werder. Krähenberg is a natural monument with an impressive panoramic view of the landscape, featuring a wide expanse of sandy, dry grassland and broom heath. This environment is particularly home to sand lizards, grasshoppers, sea thrift and silver grass. At Caputher Gemünde strait you can bring the hike to a relaxed conclusion.

Route description/points of interest and background information:

Walk up Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse from the station and turn right into Kastanienallee. Kastanienallee leads you along the railway line and then around Krähenberg on a beautiful forest path. At the junction of Panoramaweg/Sonnenhang, walk up the edge of the forest to the left. On your right you will see some bungalows and houses. From here you have a wonderful view over the forest as far as Lake Caputher See. Keep straight on and you will come out at Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse, which you follow towards Krähenberg. Halfway along the trail there is a “Belvedere” on the left, from where the view stretches across Lake Schwielowsee to Werder and down to the ferry. Continuing straight ahead you will reach Krähenberg. Before this, take a moment to enjoy the view of the natural oasis of the Altmann Garden. On Krähenberg you have a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Schwielowsee as far as Werder, Geltow and Schäferberg to Berlin – Wannsee (with television tower), Telegrafenberg and down to Lake Caputher See. An information panel provides information on the Krähenberg natural monument and the protected dry grassland biotope. Walk down Krähenberg straight to the road Am Krähenberg – and don't forget to admire the glacial erratic on the corner of Schmerberger Weg. To get to the waterside promenade and the Caputher Gemünde strait, turn left into Bergstrasse, cross Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and walk along Weinbergstrasse to the waterside promenade. Follow this under the railway bridge and then turn left to return to your starting point.

Possible combinations:

  • At the Panoramaweg/Am Sonnenhang junction, follow Panoramaweg and then continue along Spitzbubenweg to the circular path around Lake Caputher See.
