The Plaue Fontane Trail is a short trail that brings to life the main places visited by Fontane in Plaue. The walk conveys a sense of closeness to nature and cultural history, as well as offering relaxation, peace and movement. At a total of 11 stations you can trace the concrete references to Fontane's visits to Plaue, which the poet mainly included in the volume Fünf Schlösser (“Five Palaces”) of his Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg (“Walks through the Brandenburg Marches”).

The starting point of the Plaue Fontane Trail is near the Bornufer shore. From here you have a clear view of Plaue Palace and the Margaretenhof. The path first crosses the old Havel bridge to the opposite bank. Back at the starting point on the Bornufer, a circular route leads past the palace and through the palace park. The old parish church, the former Gasthof zum deutschen Haus, the town hall and the old pharmacy are still to be seen the wayside.

Length: approximately 3 kilometres

Trail conditions: natural paths, 11 stations with information on Fontane’s visits to Plaue

Public transport links: take tram 2 from Brandenburg central station as far as Am Stadion/Industriemuseum, then take BUS E/525 for Kirchmöser
