Curiously this monument it stands just outside the entrance to the village of Caputh on the Templiner Strasse road and looks like the remains of a monastery ruin – however it is also said to be the the source of spring water from St. Mary’s Spring, also known as the Heiliges Grabestor or Holy Burial Gate. It is an enclosure of a spring, which is also a listed monument on the List of Brandenburg Monuments. In 1852, King Frederick William IV commissioned August Stüler to construct a natural drinking trough based on the design of Mary’s Tomb in the Kidron Valley in Jerusalem.

He designed a portal in an early Gothic display wall. Two shallow pointed arches resting on columns sit within a triple-enclosed arched entrance within a rectangular frame – probably mainly made of locally produced bricks. The monument was extensively restored in 2014 and cleared of plants and vegetation. The spring is now dry although there is a small pool in the basin.
