The museum is an institute of the Rinderzuchtverband Berlin-Brandenburg e. G. (beef rearing association). The association promotes traditional Brandenburg beef rearing and sees its mission as preparing its history and exhibiting it for anyone who is interested to see. To this end, at the end of the 1990s, it began looking for historic documents from old beef rearing families and in the archives. The museum was opened on July 8, 2004 as the result of this successful search.
