The House of Rivers was opened in the context of the 2015 National Garden Show. It is the NATURA 2000 – Information Centre for the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve in northern Saxony-Anhalt. During the National Garden Show in the Havelland region, tens of thousands of visitors were impressed by its unusual architecture, the permanent multi-media exhibition with 27 information stations dedicated to habitats worthy of protection, plant and animal species of the Elbe-Havel region, and the attractive outside area featuring a renaturated side arm of the river Havel, a newly created river island and an aquatic playground.
