A large bird and butterfly exhibition documents the region’s natural and animal worlds. We tell of exploring, collecting and comparing. The multitude of archaeological finds from Havelland extends beyond the town boundaries. They include stone devices, mammoth bones and earthenware dishes from the Middle Ages. Modern history is also represented. We provide insights into the National Socialist era, the redevelopment of Falkensee after the Second World War and the lives of Falkensee’s inhabitants in the shadow of the Berlin Wall. The tour of the exhibition finishes with film documents. The galley on the ground floor also offers an exhibition space for contemporary art. A varied programme of events that includes exhibition openings, lectures and readings connects the individual exhibition areas.

The concept of home from the perspective of an outsider – Gertrud Kolmar in Falkensee-Finkenkrug

Every village, every town or region has something unique – a special history or an unusual personality. At Museum Falkensee, the regional history exhibition is linked to the life story and work of famous lyric poet Gertrud Kolmar (1894-1943). Almost her entire body of work was created in the beauty and seclusion of the place. The roses in here father’s garden and the landscape behind the house, the pine trees, lakes, sandy paths and animals made their way into her world of poetry.

The Gertrud Kolmar rose garden

Whereas the permanent exhibition at the museum follows the life and work of Gertrud Kolmar, the rose garden with its poems provides an opportunity to get to know what this exceptional poet’s life felt like.

The museum is closed on Mondays, Fridays and public holidays.
