Your gaze floats down Hauptstrasse in the heart of Havelstadt, over the Jahrtausendbrücke Bridge, spanning the River Havel and up Ritterstrasse. A tram approaches from the distance, disappears into a dip, crawls up to the top of the bridge and then dives down into Neustadt again until you can no longer see it, only to reappear once more in your field of vision a few seconds later as it pulls itself up Hauptstrasse. This scene is perhaps one of the most beautiful, demonstrating how harmonious modern transport technology can be combined with the historic buildings of the town centre, as if the tram had always been there.

The citizens of Brandenburg first took this form of transport through their town a little over 100 years ago, initially horse-drawn and electrified since 1911. 

The tram museum exhibition explains how eventful the history of the tram has been in Havelstadt. Transport company employees and former employees developed the museum that first opened in 1997 with lots of love, meticulous care and voluntary work. After being restructured a number of times and taking a two year break, the show and the old street depot has been open again since 2002. 

An extensive collection of documents and physical exhibits whisk visitors away to the old days of the tram. The museum is on the top floor of the direct current substation, which is still in operation.
