A relaxing raft tour for romantics to slow down and switch off, or as an adventure trip for the whole family. This raft trip is also perfectly suited for inexperienced rafters. The two bridge passages can be handled without any problems. The route covers quiet waterways through attractive landscapes and nature along an elongated chain of lakes with reed-trimmed banks.

On land you’ll see the street village of Radewege pass by with a beautiful spot on the edge of Lake Beetzsee. If you’d like to get your feet back onto dry land for a while, stop off here to take a look at the village church with its ribbed vaults, pretty lancet windows and wooden renaissance pulpit. This Havelland village also features large four-sided farmyards and a Franconian farmstead. As you continue on your raft tour you’ll pass by the village of Ketzür with its famous village church. Ketzür also boasts a post mill, a rarity in the Havelland region. Between Päwesin and Riewend it’s possible to interrupt the raft tour to take in a sweeping panoramic view of the surrounding area from the 60-metre-tall Mühlenberg hill in Bagow. Before the raft tour heads from Päwesin back to Brandenburg an der Havel it’s well worth paying a visit to Riewend, a small village centred around a village green stand with an idyllic location and the remains of a Slavic hill fort from the seventh or eighth century.

Length/Duration: 38 kilometres (1–2 days)

Start/finish: Brandenburg an der Havel

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RE1 from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Brandenburg an der Havel (about 1 hour).
  • Car: From Berlin, take motorway A115, A10, A2 or the B102 to Brandenburg an der Havel (about one hour).

Route: Brandenburg an der Havel, Beetzsee, Päwesin and back again

On-shore outings:

  • Brandenburg an der Havel: Cathedral, Klosterkirche St. Pauli monastery church, Industrial Museum, Old Town
  • Radewege: Village church, old four-sided farms
  • Ketzür: Post mill
  • Bagow: Village church, panoramic view from the 60-metre-tall Mühlenberg hill
  • Riewend: small idyllic village centred around a village green stand

nautical information: Sail the Silo Canal (with a charter certificate, pre-booking required for Krakauer Schleuse lock!). If water is scarce, check the depth in the Lünower Streng and Päwesiner Streng. Northern part of Lake Riewendsee heavily silted and therefore not navigable. Low current.

Recommendation: Bring along bicycles to explore the picturesque surroundings

Licence: not required
