Watch a lakeland grow: In the next few years, 20 lakes will be created in the south of Brandenburg in places where previously excavators used to tear up the earth in search of lignite and surface mining was carried out. Some of them are already flooded. In the heart of the Lusatian Lake District, in just a few years ten lakes will be connected by navigable canals. Part of the future district is already navigable. Amateur boaters can go on boat trips between Lake Senftenberger See and Lake Geierswalder See. The two lakes are connected by the Koschen Canal, which passes under a main road and even the “Schwarze Elster” river.
