Just upstream of Grießen, a weir regulates the water level in the River Neiße. On the German side, the power station canal branches off the River Neiße on the left-hand side of the weir. This route is particularly useful when the water level in the River Neiße is low. A weir also needs to be circumnavigated as you enter the canal although experienced canoeists can paddle through the left-hand hatchway. Portage is not possible. There is a strong undercurrent at the weir. A short distance further along the canal, boats needs to be taken out of the river at the power plant to the right of the weir – there is private land on the left which may not be trespassed. Boats can be returned to the water immediately downstream of the hydroelectric power plant.
