Klein Glienicke is part of Potsdam between Babelsberg Park and the Glienicke Bridge. It impresses with its picturesque Swiss houses, that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

For about forty years, Klein Glienicke was primarily known as the "Appendix of the GDR", because the village was completely surrounded by West Berlin and thus by the Berlin wall. As an exclave of East Germany, it was given the status of a "special security zone". Its only connection to Potsdam was a narrow bridge, which could only be crossed with a written permission. When walking through Klein Glienicke, steles provide information about the history of the place.

The Swiss houses go back to Prince Carl. Between 1863 and 1867 he had ten houses built in the Swiss style. Only four of them are preserved until today, two on Waldmüllerstrasse, one on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Strasse and one on Louis-Nathan-Allee. Peter Joseph Lenné was in charge of landscaping the area. He included Böttcherberg hill, which is now part of Berlin, into the artistic garden planning and built the semi-circular Loggia Alexandra on the hill. Impressive lines of sight lead from here to the surrounding cultural landscape.

In the old cemetery of Klein Glienicke numerous personalities of local and national importance are buried. The many decorative tombs bear witness to this. A few minutes from the old cemetery a small neo-Gothic chapel is situated, that was built to plans by Reinhold Persius and inaugurated in 1881.

With its architecturally valuable houses that shape the townscape, Klein Glienicke is an important part of the world heritage site linking the parks of Babelsberg and Glienicke.
