The museum "Im Güldenen Arm" is the oldest originally restored house of the second Potsdam city expansion. It was built around 1737 as a residential building, and is therefore an important exhibit in itself. The house was acquired by the administration of monument preservation in the early 1990s and with considerable funding and donations carefully reconstructed as a museum.

The Brandenburgische Kulturbund e.V has been running the house as a museum and event house since autumn 2010. On the upper floor is the permanent exhibition "The simple form of use - rural and bourgeois ceramics from the 18th to the middle of the 20th century", a collection of utility ceramics by Siegfried Lachmann. In the lower rooms there are around six exhibitions by a wide variety of artists. Literature and small concert events in the house and in the courtyard garden are also part of the programme.

The baroque prefabricated house was built in 1737 in the course of the construction of the second baroque city expansion under Friedrich Wilhelm I (1688-1740). In two streets, in today's Hermann-Elflein-Straße and today's Jägerstraße, all houses were constructed of timber framework. This house is the only one that has been preserved in its construction. The wood sculptor August Melchior Erhardt once lived and worked here, who expressed his craftsmanship and artistic ability in the form of portal decorations.
