The King immediately had Heilandskirche (Church of the Redeemer) built on the headland jutting into Jungfernsee according to plans by Ludwig Persius. Peter Joseph Lenné was commissioned to landscape the area. The park became overgrown in the GDR era but was restored in 1994.
