The third stage of the Tour Brandenburg extends 47 kilometres from Glöwen to Wittenberge. The tour leads across the Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserve. From Glöwen and Havelberg it continues into the heart of the Prignitz. Rühstädt is one of the European villages with the largest population of storks. The route continues to Wittenberge, the largest town on the River Elbe in the Prignitz.

Start: Glöwen

Finish: Wittenberge

How to get there: From Berlin Zoologischer Garten, take the RE7 (rapid transit train) to Glöwen. From Glöwen about 10 kilometres by bike to Havelberg (about two hours).

Return journey: From Wittenberge, take the EC 179 Euro City train (Prague) to Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) (about one hour).

Route: Glöwen, Havelberg, Abbendorf, Gnevsdorf, Rühstädt, Bälow, Hinzdorf, Wittenberge

Sights:
  • Havelberg: Dom St. Martin Cathedral, Japanese-inspired garden
  • Rühstädt: village church, Farming Museum, Estate Park, Rühstädt visitor centre - Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserve
  • Wittenberge: Town Hall, Heisterbusch district, "Alte Burg” Local History Museum, Steintor Gate, "Zeitreise” sculpture, Old Oil Mill, clock tower, historic locomotive shed

Trail conditions/surface: The tour consists of largely well-maintained and mostly asphalted cycle paths. Large sections of the “Tour Brandenburg” have already been upgraded and are signposted to make it easy to cycle without any restrictions.
