Landschaftspark Hoppenrade landscape park, situated north-east of Perleberg, is considered the most outstanding park in Prignitz because of its design and valuable stock of trees. Built in the style of an English landscape park, the estate was considered the "Pearl of Prignitz" around 1900. The entire estate, which can still be identified in its structures today, was built from 1830, when Friedrich Wilhelm Freyer had the manor house built.

The park was incorporated into the natural and historical environment and herbaceous borders, fountains and valuable copses completed the picture. The building and park merged into a single unit and made an impression with its liberality and open landscape. The paths opened up various landscape areas, including meadows, forest paths and picturesque pond edges. The economic use of the estate took priority and was taken into account in the reorganisation of the house and yard layout.

Many imported tree species adorn the estate in addition to the beech, Douglas fir and oak trees. About one hundred and twenty old tree models from around 1840 survived, such as the swamp cypresses on the swan pond or the old climbing beech near the manor house, which with its seven metre trunk circumference has been registered as a natural monument.

The changed use of the park after the Second World War led to a division of the site, which permanently affected the entire estate. The stock of trees suffered from agricultural use and some of them were chopped down. Due to a lack of maintenance, the undergrowth took hold, the paths became overgrown, old trees and groups of shrubs were lost and the ponds dried up. The former distillery with its cross-vaulted cellar was demolished as was the extension to the manor house. The overall impression of the historic estate has since been destroyed.

The park and the entire estate are protected by a monument preservation order. The park has been under municipal ownership since 1995. The Landschaftspark Hoppenrade friends’ association, founded in the same year, has since made efforts to gradually renovate it.
