Pritzwalk Town Hall was inaugurated in 1829, when the neo-Classicist style influenced by Karl Friedrich Schinkel was in full bloom in Prussia. The new building with its tower on the roof replaced the Renaissance Town Hall dating from the 16th century, which was damaged by a fire in 1821. Restored between 1996 to 1998, the building is now home to the Town Council. Every year at the beginning of September, the Pritzwalk "Autumn Lights” Festival is held around the Town Hall. The colourful interplay of spotlights and projections transforms the town centre buildings into a colourful backdrop with the onset of darkness.
