The lock is located between the mill and the castle. The first floodgate at the Mühlendamm dam was built in Zehdenick in 1742 and as early as 1813 a new chamber lock was built in the same place. Since the lock was no longer able to cope with the many lock operations, a so-called double lock was built between 1907 and 1909 and the two locks were operated in parallel until 1911/12. The old lock chamber was decommissioned around 1930. The remains of the old lock basin and the entrance to the lock are still easily recognisable.

Today there is parking here with a beautiful panoramic view of the mill. The lock operation has been fully automated since 2003 and linked to the drawbridge by means of computer surveillance.

Since the Upper Havel Waterway is no longer used by cargo ships and is only used by a few small passenger boats, it has become a popular destination for sports boats of all sizes and classes.
