Heavenly - this is what the landscape around the state-approved resort of Himmelpfort must have looked like to the Cistercian monks about 700 years ago, who settled in the “Pforte des Himmels” (Gates of Heaven) and built their monastery on the promontory surrounded by four lakes.

Nestled between Fürstenberg/Havel and Lychen, in the middle of the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park with as much water, forests and meadows as you could wish for. Four bodies of water surround the area with about 500 inhabitants and make is a heavenly location: Lake Stolpsee, Lake Sidowsee, Lake Haussee and Lake Moderfitzsee.

Every child knows that Santa lives in Himmelpfort. Every year, just before the Christmas period, Santa is in his grotto and welcomes the children with their letters. Diligent angels answer the thousands of letters from all over the world that come to the Deutsche Post Christmas post office. On the weekends in Advent, there is a lot going on at the site of the former monastery when the Weihnachtsmarkt Himmelpfort Christmas market opens its doors.

Santa’s Grotto and the Christmas post office are at Haus des Gastes/The Christmas House which, in addition to the café-bistro and summer garden, is also home to a hostel and bicycle rental as well as a tourist information point. You can get information on events, restaurants and accommodation in Himmelpfort here, as well as maps and brochures.

Please contact the tourist information centre in Fürstenberg/Havel (see contact details) to book accommodation and guided tours, draisine and horse-drawn carriage rides as well as ticket pre-sales for events.
