The three-aisle municipal parish church St Mary’s in Altlandsberg is an impressive granite structure. It can be found in a rather unusual location on the northern edge of town and near the castle church, rather than in the medieval town centre. It is assumed that the original Slavic village was located here.

The original wooden church near the castle that existed at the time, was replaced with a large new building around 1250. The tower with its protruding granite base remains a prominent feature to this day. The ceiling was vaulted in the 15th century. Early Gothic botanical ornaments and painting can be seen on the plaster in some places. The richly decorated pulpit in the style of Dutch ornamental engravings, was built around 1600. The windows of the church were altered in the 19th century. Gradual refurbishment of the church in individual construction phases was taken up in early 2000.

Concerts in and around the church and against the backdrop of the medieval townscape of Altlandsberg take place regularly in the summer months. Medieval town festivals attract visitors even from afar.

While the refurbishment is underway, tours can be arranged for by contacting the parish office on Berliner Strasse 16, telephone +49 33438-60210. The church is normally open daily from 10 a.m. between Easter and Thanksgiving.
