The brown pottery in Oderbruch combines traditional craftsmanship and timeless design. Just 100 years ago, the beautifully shaped stone pots were an integral part of the households of fishermen, farmers and citizens. Today, the brownware is made in the workshop with great attention to detail according to old tradition and interpreted in a modern way.

Handmade unique pieces

Each piece is created freely on the potter's wheel and finished with glazes made from regional clay and feldspar sands. The wood-fired kiln with a capacity of three cubic meters gives the vessels their silky-matt sheen and individual character - an effect that is created by the special firing technique with natural ash deposits and long cooling times.

The art of clay mixing

The clays for the brownware come mainly from Frohnsdorf near Leipzig and are carefully blended to achieve the desired properties. Resistance to thermal shock plays a decisive role, especially for baking molds. The right ratio of clay types ensures that the pots are robust and durable.

The wood-fired kiln - the heart of the workshop

With temperatures of up to 1,340 °C and an elaborate firing process, the typical clay glaze is created that makes each piece unique. The use of woods such as spruce, pine and lime creates the characteristic effects in the color and texture of the glazes. Each firing requires several cubic meters of wood, which is carefully selected and prepared.

A place to discover and enjoy

The Brauntöpferei not only offers unique ceramics, but also a very special experience. The salesroom invites you to enjoy the craftsmanship, the connection to nature and the tranquillity of the Oderbruch all year round. Whether you visit in summer with a view of the Oder or in the cold season by the warm tiled stove - tradition comes alive here.
