Lake Straussee is located just outside the city of Berlin in an idyllic rural location near the town of Strausberg which was named after it, in the district of Märkisch-Oderland. The average depth is just under ten metres; at the deepest point south-west of the ferry these ice-age waters are 20 metres deep. The banks of Straussee – which is approximately 3.8 kilometres long and up to 340 metres wide – are sometimes difficult to access, dropping rapidly to a depth of 10 metres after a narrow bank area with an even, trough-shaped structure. In summer, a thermocline forms at a depth of around 9 metres. Below this separation layer, the water is very low in oxygen and the ground is mainly muddy. Successful fishing is now possible down to a depth of 10 metres.
  • Fish species: eel, pike, tench, perch, carp
  • Size: 40.82 hectares, depth: 20 metres
  • Tenant/operator: Rinast Angelparadies
  • Sale of fishing permits:
    •  Fischerhof Rinast, Seepromenade 2, 15344 Strausberg, telephone +49 3341 314774

The fish species that mainly occur here are eel, perch, pike, zander, carp and various whitefish. Catfish, grass carp and tench also live in Lake Straussee, but they are not as common. Bait fishers will come into contact with roach and rudd most readily, while bream and white bream bite very well, too, and with a little luck and patience there may even be the odd mirror carp who will put up a good fight for the bait offered.

If you are after teeth-bearing predators such as pike and zander, you have a good chance of a catch in Lake Straussee. But there are also large numbers of perch here: shoals of them can be tracked down using an echo sounder. If you can make out individual sickles on the display next to the “fish cloud”, you should sink a good-size bait down into the depths. The sloping bank edges are considered to be particularly promising, but of course perch and pike are active in open water, too. As in many of the unspoilt waters of the surrounding lakes, boat anglers have an advantage on Lake Straussee and are more flexible in the search for a catch. The use of boat motors is prohibited, however, and anglers are required to keep a sufficient distance from the fish traps.

Night fishing is permitted with an additional permit.
