Lake Wirchensee is in many respects a very distinctive lake. Measuring 36 hectares in size, it is the highest-altitude lake in Schlaubetal Nature Reserve and is subject to special regulations. With the exception of the Waldseehotel on the peninsula on the northern shore of the lake, there are no other buildings by this idyllic lake. Unspoilt nature? This is where to find it! If you want to take a short break to escape the hectic pace of everyday life, Lake Wirchensee is the perfect place to go. Around the lake, which is situated in the middle of a forest, there is a nature trail of about 4 kilometres which anglers like to use for an initial exploration tour. The average depth of Lake Wirchensee is 5 metres, but there are also significantly deeper areas, too. Good access points can be found on the eastern and southern shore, where you can also expect herbaceous vegetation.

Fish stocks mainly include eel, pike, carp, tench, whitefish and zander, whereby there is always talk of large carp. If you want to enjoy fishing in complete solitude, this place is a dream come true. But the remote character of this lake, which is fed by the River Schlaube, is no coincidence. Lake Wirchensee enjoys special protection so as to ensure this dream-like paradise enjoys the very best conservation. Boating is only permitted from July 1 each year, as foraging fish and sea eagles may otherwise be disturbed. In addition, only boats from Waldsee-Hotel may be used, and these may only be propelled by muscle power. So the only way to get to the fish is by rowing. However, Lake Wirchensee is sheltered from the wind in a hollow, so there is a limit to how much exertion is required.
