At 36 hectares, Wirchensee is the highest lake in the Schlaubetal Nature Park. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it lies idyllically in the forest and is subject to special protection regulations. The only buildings are at the Waldseehotel on the peninsula on the northern shore. An approximately 4 kilometre long circular path leads around the lake and offers good access points on the eastern and southern shores, some of which are overgrown with herbs.

The fishing waters are located in the protected area of the Schlaubetal Nature Park. Boats may only be used from 1 July and only with the boats of the Waldseehotel to avoid disturbing fish and sea eagles. Anglers keep their distance from the reeds and water lilies to protect plants and animals.
