The chequered history of the city of Fürstenwalde, including its position as the bishops’ seat for almost 200 years, the cradle of Japanese brewing and the production location for lamps on the Suez Canal, has survived to this day. The Cathedral of St. Mary, which can be seen from afar, takes us into the heart of the city – the Cathedral complex area: with a noble lighthouse, brought back from the Baltic See, right next to the Bishops’ Palace and boulders from the Stone Age. Of the city’s fortifications, remains of the wall, the Bullenturm tower and parts of the old episcopal see have survived.
