From Hangelsberg it goes on to Fürstenwalde (Spree).

At the beginning you have the choice: do you choose the marked route a little off the banks of the Spree or the more difficult but much more beautiful route directly along the banks of the Spree? Either way, you will encounter numerous side arms of the Spree with their typical lake-like bulges on this stage.

Length: 14 km, duration: approx. 3:30 h

Start: Hangelsberg

Destination: Fürstenwalde

Logo / route marking: Blue point on a white background

Arrival by public transport: From Berlin main station with the RE1 (Frankfurt (Oder)) to Hangelsberg (approx. 40 min)

Departure public transport: From Fürstenwalde with the RE1 (Magdeburg) to Berlin Central Station (approx. 45 min)

Course: Hangelsberg, Große Tränke, Fürstenwalde

How to get there / Interesting facts: The path leads you from Hangelsberg always along the banks of the Spree to Fürstenwalde. The highlight of this tour is possibly the Große Tränke lock and the adjoining Oder-Spree canal. The canal is a direct connection to Berlin and was expanded from 1887 to 1891. A great relief for shipping, because through the canal, the ships no longer have to pass the many loops and loops of the Spree. The canal leads from the Spree from Berlin-Köpenick to the Oder to Eisenhüttenstadt and thus connects these two major rivers.

Sights:

  • Bank of the Spree
  • Oder-Spree-Canal at the Große Tränke lock

  • Fürstenwalde: Heimattiergarten, St. Mary's Cathedral, brewery museum, city museum, culture factory, old town hall, remains of the city wall, lighthouse

Route characteristics / route expansion: Mixture of paved and unpaved roads
