The international bat museum ‘Julianenhof’ is located on a rural estate with an ice cellar, a stable and a settlers’ barn. It is operated by the regional branch of NABU (German environmental organisation), Strausberg - Märkische Schweiz e.V.

Visitors can see the historic ice cellar. The history of ice harvesting is explained in an exhibition. Nowadays, bats hibernate in the former ice cellar. It is among the biggest of its kind in Brandenburg, with a ceiling height of over five metres and almost 40 square metres of floor space. Around 120 cubic metres of ice used to be stored here. Thanks to its 1.85 metres thick outside walls with air chambers, the ice remained frozen for up to two years.
