The 13-metre Eulenturm (“Owl Tower”) (54 steps) was erected in 2003 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of Kurt Kretschmann, replacing the previous “Wackelturm” (“Wobble Tower”) on the grounds of the Haus der Naturpflege. Here there is an almost two-hectare display and teaching garden with more than 1,000 plant species which is a wonderful place for visitors to linger. The house and garden were established by Erna and Kurt Kretschmann – creators of the nature conservation owl symbol that is well-known throughout Germany. From the tower you have a view down into the glacial valley of the River Oder to the Polish border.
