The History of the Estate

In 1679, Electress Dorothea of Brandenburg acquired the Quilitz estate, which later became Neuhardenberg. By 1708, a baroque castle garden was established, and between 1786 and 1790, Joachim Bernhard von Prittwitz built the present-day castle as a three-winged structure with a mansard roof.

A further milestone occurred in 1814 when Karl August Fürst von Hardenberg received the estate as recognition for his achievements and renamed it Neu Hardenberg in 1815. Under his direction, the castle was transformed into a two-story neoclassical palace around 1820, based on plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The park was redesigned by Lenné in 1822, gaining its characteristic layout that remains a draw for visitors to this day.

A Place for Art, Culture, and Encounters

Today, Schloss Neuhardenberg serves as a center for art, culture, science, and business ethics. Following extensive restoration by the German Savings Banks and Giro Association, the estate now houses a hotel, two restaurants, and event spaces. Its cultural program features exhibitions, readings, concerts, and theater performances, earning international acclaim and fostering diverse encounters.

The Castle Park: A Year-Round Highlight

The castle park, designed by Lenné, offers a harmonious blend of nature and art. The expansive green spaces are open year-round and invite visitors to enjoy relaxing walks.
