The church of St. Nikolai in Luckau is a three-nave hall-type church made of brick – one of the five most important medieval churches in Berlin and Brandenburg. It is also the largest Gothic town church in Lower Lusatia, subtly merging Gothic and Baroque elements.

The Gothic building saw various construction phases from the 13th through to the 15th century, also surviving several town fires. The main altar is by Abraham Jäger and dates back to 1670. The interior dates back to the second half of the 17th century: here, the excellent High Baroque organ by Leipzig organ builder Christoph Donat deserves special mention, as do the richly decorated wooden galleries with double spiral staircase and sandstone pulpit by Torgau sculptor Andreas Schultze. By contrast, the small image of Emperor Charles IV on the sandstone portal on the south side appears modest.

Guided tours of the church are only possible by prior arrangement with the parish or the tourist information centre in Luckau.
