Who’s been nibbling into this tree? And who’s left these strange footprints? This nature trail is entirely dedicated to the beavers that are at home here around the idyllic Lake Kleiner Mochowsee. Information panels, signs and pictures of footprints explain the aquatic habitat of the big rodents – taking care to do away with any preconceived notions. An artificial Beaver’s Lodge offers additional insights.

Just three kilometres in length, this nature trail is suitable for families and is one of a total of six circular paths that are linked to the Ludwig Leichhardt Trail in loops. All of them together form the Ludwig Leichhardt Nature Trail, covering a total length of some 32 kilometres. This makes it one of the longest nature trails in Germany. Each path is dedicated to a selected aspect of the impressive and varied natural landscapes between Goyatz and Butzen.

Length: 3 kilometres

Start/finish: Car park by the B320

Marking: beaver symbol

Directions: By car or bicycle

Route description/points of interest/background information: The Beaver Path runs along the idyllic Lake Kleiner Mochowsee between Goyatz and Lamsfeld. You can start out at the car park by the B 320 or at the Ludwig Leichhardt Shelter. On a hill between the lakes Großer Mochowsee and Kleiner Mochowsee there is a shelter – a pleasant spot in an unspoilt natural setting that offers a view of Kleiner Mochowsee.
