How is a forest sustainably managed and what is the importance of hunting in this area? The Deer Path focuses on information about forests and riverways. Information panels and exhibits such as food troughs and salt-lick stones are used to explain to walkers what work needs to be done in the forest.

This nature trail is one of a total of six circular paths that follow the Ludwig Leichhardt Trail in loops. It can be combined well with the short Grass Snake Path. All of them together form the Ludwig Leichhardt Nature Trail, covering a total length of some 32 kilometres. This makes it one of the longest nature trails in Germany. Each path is dedicated to a selected aspect of the impressive and varied natural landscapes between Goyatz and Butzen.

Length: 3 kilometres

Start/finish: Ludwig Leichhardt Shelter

Marking: deer symbol

Directions: By car or bicycle via Goyatz

Route description/points of interest/background information: The path leads largely through the forest. On the way back to Goyatz, two variants are possible: via Goyatzer Teichgraben, you will find out about how important natural riverways are for rare animals and plants. Alternatively, the way back past an old World War II trench provides information about the historical past in this area.

  • Beaver Path
  • Otter Path
