The venerable Dominican monastery, which today houses the cultural centre and museum, the Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church), which towering over everything expresses civic pride and represents one of the most beautiful examples of North-East German brick Gothic architecture in existence, and the enticing Unteruckersee Lake, ideal for boat trips, swimming, canoe trips or simply relaxing, mean that the town today has many different facets.

It is modern around its new Marktberg, while radiating the small-town flair of bygone times when strolling on the cobblestones of Sternberg. It is a green oasis in the imaginatively-designed lakeside park with its theme gardens as well as in the town park with its impressive stock of trees. On the north shore it almost seems somewhat maritime, and as soon as you approach the town you are either enchanted by the beautiful Uckermarck hills or feel compelled to go for a walk through the region's forests.

From spring to autumn, each beautiful corner of the town seems to throng with activity and events, including the Summer of Culture in the Dominican Monastery with its exhibitions, theatre performances and concerts under the Friedgarten lime tree, the big Open-Air Picnic in the lakeside park, the Town Festival and Culinary Mile on Marktberg and in the town centre, and the Fishermen's Festival on the north shore.

Both the town and lakeside parks are freely accessible every day until dusk with no admission charge. The lakeside park has special opening hours when events take place on the open-air stage. These can then be found at www.prenzlau.eu.
