Due to the current outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) among wild boars, officially mandated protective measures are in effect in parts of the Uckermark district, which affect the use of bike and hiking trails. Entry into forests and open countryside (fields, meadows, and farmland) is prohibited. This includes, among others, the Märkischer Landweg, specifically Stages 7 and 8. Access to these areas is prohibited.

These regulations are in effect from July 11, 2026, until July 30, 2027 (tentatively).

Alternative: Hikers on the Märkischer Landweg can take the RB61 or RE3 train lines between Angermünde and Schwedt/Oder, or bus 468 from Angermünde to the Criewen, National Park Center stop.

The eighth stage of the Märkisch Overland Trail covers from Stolpe an der Oder to Schwedt (Oder) The tour runs along the edge of the slope of the Oder plain through the Lower Oder Valley National Park. Visits to the castle grounds and the National Park Centre in Criewen are worth the while, before walking on through the forest and meadow landscape of the Uckermark, all the way to Schwedt (Oder).

Length: 22 kilometres (6 hours)

Start: Stolpe / Finish: Schwedt (Oder)

Logo/route sign: Blue cross on a white background

How to get there: Take the RE3 or RE66 from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Angermünde. From here take bus no. 456 (Angermünde) to Stolpe, Turm (about 1.5 hours).
