Outside the town walls, Angermünde once had a castle right on Lake Mündesee. Very little of it remains. But the ruins of the wall are impressive enough. Where once castle walls fended off attackers, a waterside promenade has now been built that Angermünde can only envy. In times gone by, the women of Angermünde used to wash their clothes here; today you can treat yourself to a restful view of the lake.
And you simply cannot miss out on the stone sculptures here, made by assembling extremely heavy boulders. Since 1997, Angermünde has hosted "hard stone symposiums", to which sculptors from all over the world travel. They then create artworks from glacial granite rocks. The sculptures at Lake Mündesee promenade can be admired, marvelled at or even laughed at. In any case, the sculptures invite visitors to explore the landscape with fresh eyes.
