The Martinskirche church is only about 150 years old. It was the towerless house of prayer of the Old Lutherans who opposed the union of the Lutheran and Reformed Church decreed from above. Only a few steps further along, at Jägerstrasse 28, you find the executioner's house. It sounds less menacing if you know that the executioner mostly earned his living as a knackerman, which means he disposed of animal carcasses.
