The round tour runs through Joachimsthal, which is right by the largest, continuous forested area in East Germany, providing access to the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Then on via Althüttendorf on the banks of Griebnitzsee Lake, which is ideal for swimming.

How to get there:
  • Train: Take the RE3 (Stralsund) from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Eberswalde. Continue on from here via the RB63 to Joachimsthal (about 1 hour).
  • Car: From Berlin via the A11 to Joachimsthal (about 1 hour).

Route: Grimnitzsee Lake lakeside area

Sights: 

  • Joachimsthal: Sculpture garden at the town hall, town church
  • Grimnitz: Castle ruins, lido, BIORAMA Project viewing platform
  • Althüttendorf: Nature observation point
