Start / Finish: Triangel Campground in Niederfinow

Tour Description

Your journey begins at the Triangel Campground in Niederfinow, where you can rent canoes, kayaks, and SUPs. From there, you’ll paddle east along the Finowkanal toward the impressive ship lifts. After just a few hundred meters, you’ll reach the first lock, the Stecher Lock. Here you have a choice: either pass through the lock or carry your boat past the south side of the hydroelectric power plant. Over the next 4.5 kilometers, you’ll encounter beautiful gardens, the historic bascule bridge of Niederfinow, and the idyllic floodplain of the Alte Finow. After passing through the second lock, you’ll enter the Havel-Oder waterway and enjoy a spectacular view of the two ship lifts. Information boards indicate which ship lift is currently operational. After the lift, you must exit the trough but may be able to re-enter immediately and begin your return journey to the campground.

Rest and break areas: You cannot go onshore directly at the ship lifts. At the Liepe lock, you will find entry and exit points. From here, it is a short walk to the information center and the tourist office. Here you will find dining options and public restrooms.

Getting There:
  • Public Transportation: From Eberswalde Station, take the RB60 toward Wriezen/FF Oder to Niederfinow Station; from there, it’s a 30-minute walk
  • By Bike: From Eberswalde Station, 7.5 km along the towpath (mostly along the Finow Canal)
  • By car from Berlin: A11 to Finowfurt, B167 to Hohenfinow, L29 to Niederfinow; in Niederfinow, turn left after the drawbridge onto Finowstraße (later Dorfstraße) to the campground
  • By car from Ahrensfelde: B158 to Tiefensee, B168 to Heckelberg, L29 to Niederfinow; in Niederfinow, turn left after the drawbridge onto Finowstraße (later Dorfstraße) to the campground
