Tour Description

The tour begins at Marina Park Eberswalde, a central starting point for your adventure. Here you can rent canoes, pedal boats, or SUPs to begin your journey along the Finowkanal. First, you’ll paddle toward downtown and pass the historic Eberswalde city lock, a fascinating engineering landmark. The first part of the route takes you through an urban section lined with a mix of old industrial buildings, modern structures, and charming community gardens. This scenery offers an exciting contrast between industrial history and modern city life.

After about 2 kilometers, you’ll reach the Kupferhammer lock. Here, the route transitions into a more natural section of the Finowkanal, guiding you through quiet, green landscapes. Along this stretch, you have a good chance of spotting the region’s wildlife, including beavers and cranes that frequent the quiet riverbanks.

After another 2 kilometers, you’ll reach the dock below the Drahthammer lock at the Eberswalde Family Garden. Here, you can take a well-deserved break at the beer garden or explore the Rofin Park, a living industrial monument where you can learn a lot about the history of the former pipe factory and its current use. After your break, paddle leisurely back along the same route to Marina Park. At the end of the tour, you can relax and wind down the day at one of the local restaurants—the perfect way to cap off your paddle adventure in Eberswalde.

Getting there:
  • Public Transport: Take the ICE or RE3 from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Eberswalde Hauptbahnhof. From there, take bus 861 (Nordend) to Robert-Koch-Str. This is followed by a 1 km walk along the Finow Canal (approx. 1 hour).
  • By car: From Berlin, take the A10/A11 to exit 12 (Finowfurt), then the B167 to Eberswalde (approx. 1.5 hours).

Boating information: The locks you will pass through are operated by lock personnel (9:00 a.m.–4:45 p.m.). Advance registration is required for the Drahthammer lock 24 hours in advance at: 0151/72438871. Canoes can also be carried around the locks.
