Welcome to the more than 775 years old but still young town north east of Berlin. Allow yourself to be seduced by the history of the buildings and squares. In the Middle Ages, Bernau was famous far beyond the borders of the state of Brandenburg because of its convenient location on a trade route, the brewery and textile works. The town wall, which still encloses almost the entire town centre, and the triple wall and moat system deterred some attackers and bear witness to that time. Today it is not just the historic sights that attract visitors to the town but also a varied cultural programme and the big Hussite Festival.

In summer, the town boasts a real gem – Wladfrieden open-air swimming pool. The newly renovated open-air swimming pool fits in well in terms of style with the neighbouring Bauhaus monument, Bundesschule Bernau and therefore also has a chance of being included on UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. The design of the pool, however is not just based on Bauhaus ideas of functionality but also takes modern aspects of energy efficiency and accessibility into consideration. That is why the large open roof over the functional buildings is equipped with solar absorbers that are used to heat the pool water. The town of Bernau near Berlin is also known as the “gateway to Barnimer Land”. A water rich region awaits visitors with small and large, shallow and deep lakes and lots of tourism offerings. Enjoy the crystal clear Lake Liepnitzsee, relax in Schorfheide. Summer in our region will put you in a good mood!
