The small village of Liepe is on the Finow Canal. During the Middle Ages, the houses of the Slavic settlement were grouped together under the name “Niederlipe” around the location of the current village church. Most of the inhabitants were fishermen – little is known about the building of the church. In 1308, the settlement came to be owned by Chorin Monastery. Due to pressure from the monks, a vineyard was built on the hillsides not far from the church and existed until 1734.

The previous church burned down in 1944. Little is known about this too. From 1950 to 1954, the current half-timbered church was built in its place with its timber-panelled, two-storey, square west tower. The plans for this were provided by architect and church building consultant to the Protestant Church of Berlin-Brandenburg Winfried Wendland. The model for this was the Baroque predecessor building dating from 1713. The current church is probably the fourth church on this site.

The church is a member of the “Offene Kirche” (Open Churches) initiative. The key to view the church is available according to the information on the church noticeboard or by pre-booking with the parish office at telephone +49 33458 295.
