It’s not immediately apparently that the eco-village of Brodowin and its approximately 1,200 hectares make up one of Germany’s biggest Demeter businesses. After all, the tourist highlights – the large farm shop with a cafe, the new show dairy farm and the cowsheds – are all practically next to each other, while the agricultural spaces lie far away in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve.

Traditional milk production

Holstein cows graze far away along the horizon. Their milk, as well as goat’s milk, is processed fresh each day by the dairy farm. The ground-level building with a see-through glass facade is the pride and joy of this organic business, only opened in 2011. Despite the modern facilities, milk is produced in the traditional artisan way in Brodowin, like the mozzarella crafted by hand.

Gentle production

Great value is placed on gentle, careful production of milk, butter, quark, and soft and hard cheese. It’s well worth coming to take a look, but late risers take note: The production at the dairy farm starts early in the morning and is finished by midday.

Farm shop and meadow cafe

This spacious farm shop borders on the dairy farm, and its extensive range will leave no wish unfulfilled. The small country kitchen provides a seasonal selection daily with all sorts of food and drink, while the covered terrace and the meadow cafe opposite the cowsheds are ideal places to sit down. In the summer especially you can enjoy a refreshing ice cream from Eiscafé Cadillac in Templin. The eco-village of Brodowin is a close partner of small businesses in the Uckermark region and their main supplier of cow’s milk.

Range of products

Meat, sausages, milk, butter, quark, cheese (brine, fresh, soft and hard cheese), eggs, fruit, vegetables, potatoes, honey, herbs, juices, plants

Leisure activities on the farms

Visitors can watch the entire process of producing cow’s and goat’s milk through a huge glass facade that looks into the production facility. Children can enjoy playing on a straw castle in the summer months.

Tours

In the summer holidays Brodowin organises one-hour-long company tours every Saturday at 11 a.m., and is open in general for visitors interested in a company demonstrating ecological farming. There are also hikes in cooperation with the Heimatverein Brodowin. The eco-village of Brodowin supports the surrounding nature with a range of projects, including maintaining the local skylark, fieldmouse and orchid populations.
